Why They Call Me Jimmy Fingers (The Secret Behind the Name Tag)

If you spent any time at the original Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas over the last 25 years, you probably saw me. I was the guy behind the blackjack table with a name tag that didn’t say "James"—it said Jimmy Fingers.
I get asked about it every single day. People would tap into a game, look at my tag, and start guessing. Is it because I’m fast with the cards? Is it a "mafia" thing?
The truth is a lot more "Rock & Roll" than that.

The Origin Story
The name was given to me by another dealer there named Mike Munoz (may he rest in peace). It actually had nothing to do with dealing cards. Mike knew I was a guitarist and that I had "fast fingers" on the fretboard.
He got the idea from the Steven Seagal movie, Marked for Death, which featured a character named Jimmy Fingers.
Chills and Hollywood Connections
It got even weirder when I became friends with Noel Langley Walcott (AKA Jafada), the actor who actually played the villain in that movie. Noel used to frequent The Rock, and he eventually started promoting my bands and booking us gigs.
I’ll tell you this: it always gave me chills when he would say my name. Hearing him say "Jimmy Fingers" in that same maniacal way he did in the movie would flash me right back to the screen.
Survival and Storytelling
I worked at the Hard Rock for the entire 25 years it was open. I was there the night the doors opened in 1995, and I was there when they closed. I’ve lived and breathed this rock n' roll roller coaster ride, and after surviving everything from a heart attack to cancer, I’m lucky to still be here to tell the tale.
This blog is just the beginning. I’ve put 25 years of memories, celebrity run-ins, and behind-the-scenes chaos into my new book, The Rock: A 25 Year Era in Vegas.
